Thinking about the Future.....

The main reason that the majority of college students attend college is to get a good job and/or a good career. They don’t want to be stuck at a dead end job making barely above minimum wage for the rest of their life. Most students want to be financially secure, own their own house, car, and maybe a few other possessions. For people that want to have kids, they want to be able to support them. Buy them clothes, braces; send them off to college someday, etc.

But not everyone goes into college with a set plan. Some have an idea but nothing set in stone. Some have absolutely no clue. And you may know what you want to do as a freshman, but you may find something you like better down the road. It’s okay to change what you want to do. For those who are clueless, don’t fret. You don’t have to explore on your own. There’s a place where you can go to get some guidance: The Center for Career Services.

They are located in Schwartz Hall in room 102. Their office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30- 4:30. There is somewhere there to help you with any problems like picking a major, resume writing, job searching, interviewing, and any other career- related topics. They also have a set time for walk in appointments. Which is pretty awesome in case something comes up last minute and you can’t get an appointment.

This office is full of people who want to help you with your future career. They are dedicated to helping different career situations. They have workshops and other events to help you with writing resumes and going on interviews. There are also practice interviews, but none has been set up so far. They are in charge of setting up and running the career fair that will be taking place on Wednesday, October 19th in the Adanti Student Center ballroom from 12-3. Even if you have a major, you should still go to check out other possibilities or possible minors.

Another event they run is the career fair. This doesn’t take place until the spring time. The general fair is taking place on Tuesday, April 5th in the Adanti Student Center ballroom from 1-4:30. This is definitely a must attend event your all students. You can find out about many job opportunities: part-time, full-time, summer, internships, etc.  You can also talk to experts in your field and begin networking. And it’s never too early to start, so freshmen are more than welcome too.

The staff there is nice and very helpful. You can read little bios about each person on the website. Don’t be confused about where Schwartz Hall. It’s apartments for upperclassmen, but the main level has the career office and the office of residence life. It is definitely worth making the trip to. Just stop by for a visit and get acquainted with the place because you will probably need to visit this office in the near future.
